Established egg businesses publish video guide for developing farmers

THE International Egg Commission (IEC) has launched a new, freely available training video to support emerging commercial egg producers in tropical and sub-tropical environments.

The short film, overseen by International Egg Foundation chairman Tim Lambert, on location in rural Eswatini, delivers practical, actionable guidance on ‘The Fundamentals of Successful Egg Production’, based on extensive experience and expert knowledge from within the egg industry.

This resource aims to support emerging egg farmers in low- and middle-income countries to adopt best practices and achieve long-term business productivity and improved outcomes, the IEC said. 

It is presented by chairman of Egg Farmers of Canada, Roger Pelissero, and features egg production explanation and insight from farm manager, Maganda Muchenje, and egg farm supervisor, Sifiso Nkambule at Heart for Africa.

Mr Lambert said: “Our ultimate goal at IEF is to provide better lives for people, through the power of the humble egg. 

“This project was all about creating a valuable resource that will support more sustainable, long-term stability for egg producers in low- and middle-income countries, improving the nutritional status of their families and local communities.

“The expert training covers the fundamental steps required to produce quality eggs in a safe, sustainable manner; from site selection, to housing systems, feed storage, and record keeping.

“The IEF would like to thank Egg Farmers of Canada and Steve Manton for their generous contributions, without which this project would not have been possible.”

This training video is to be used alongside the IEF’s Egg Production Manual launched last year, both freely available resources accessible via the IEF website.
