2 SISTERS has confirmed the closure of its Witham processing facility, which employs 528 people.
It announced the proposed closure in May, and a consultation has now ended on the future of the site.
Local MP Priti Patel said the news was disappointing, but had not come as a surprise.
“I hope that many will be able to find work at other sites run by the company or in related industries.
“From all the discussions I have had with the company and employee representatives, it is clear that there have been issues with the viability of the site and business for some time and all staff will have the opportunity to find alternative employment within the business.”
Production will most likely cease at the end of August, the company said, and where possible staff would be redeployed to other 2 Sisters facilities. Around 100 employees have already been given alternative roles at nearby sites.
