A FINAL consultation meeting over the future of 2 Sisters’ Llangefni processing site on Anglesey has uncovered no viable alternatives to closure of the site.
While the 45-day consultation period formally ends on 12 March, without a change in the current situation, the likelihood is a formal announcement to close will be made on 13 March.

A joint statement between 2 Sisters and Unite the Union said following such an announcement, the winding down of operations would be “as short as operationally possible”, with the last day of production being 31 March.
Between now and then, production would be “significantly reduced” so that employees can attend support events, the union added.
‘Difficult time’
A spokesperson for 2 Sisters said: “Clearly, this is very upsetting news for all concerned and a very difficult time for everyone at the factory.
“Our sole and continuing focus are those affected by the forthcoming closure, which is why we will now intensify the support we are putting in place for all colleagues.
“We are hopeful we can update stakeholders in the coming weeks with some positive news on our efforts to redeploy colleagues within our wider business as well as helping them find suitable opportunities outside the company.”
‘Devastating news’
Anglesey Council leader, councillor Llinos Medi, said, “This is devastating news for the workforce and their families.
“Our priority now will be to support them as much as possible and ensure that all 2 Sisters task force partners continue to work together on their behalf.”
“We must also focus on the long-term future of the site and the impact losing more than 700 jobs will have on the future of the Island and regional economy.”
The Welsh Government is yet to publish a written statement.
