2 SISTERS staff at its Willand site have tested positive for coronavirus covid-19, the company has said.

It is understood that the cases were confirmed at the firm’s Devon processing site following the government’s extension of its testing regime for all key workers, as opposed to just NHS staff, two weeks ago.

The firm said a “small number” of staff in different departments had tested positive for the virus. A mobile testing centre is available for key workers in nearby Truro.

Like all major food manufacturers, the firm has adapted processes to ensure social distancing in the workplace, with staff offered visors and the installation of Perspex barriers, for example. Work patterns have also been adjusted, and deep cleaning protocols increased.

‘Social distancing’

A spokesman for 2 Sisters said: “The health, safety and wellbeing of all our colleagues as key workers during this time of crisis is of paramount importance to us.

“Social distancing and enhanced hygiene protocols have been in place for some time.

“We are aware of a small number of positive Covid-19 test results from our colleagues at our Willand site across different departments.

“We have contact traced all other colleagues and as you’d expect, robust deep cleaning and disinfecting is being carried out on a daily basis throughout the site.”
