Low-path AI hits Denmark

Hens

SEVEN THOUSAND laying hens have been culled by Danish authorities after low-path avian influenza was confirmed on a farm in the country.

On Friday, 1 March, the Danish Veterinary and Food Safety Authority said it had confirmed an H5 strain of AI on the farm near Terndrup, north of Mariager Fjord in North Jutland.

The hens were set to be culled on Saturday, and a 1km protection zone has been established around the site. No other commercial poultry units fall within the zone.
