BRITISH consumers ate around three more eggs per person last year marking more than 10 years of growth.
It means per capita consumption in the UK now stands at 199/person/year.
According to Kantar Worldpanel data volume was up 4% year on year, meaning an extra 240m extra eggs consumed in the UK. Value, too, was up around 4% in the 52 weeks to the end of December.
More recent data from Kantar suggests this trend has continued into 2019, with sales figures for January putting volume up 5% and value by 4%.
It comes as the British Egg Industry Council announced that Steph Houghton, Manchester City and England football captain, would join diver Tom Daley as an ambassador for British Lion Eggs in 2019.
Both sports stars will help communicate how tasty, healthy and versatile eggs are to raise awareness and drive the continued growth of egg sales.
