China lifts 2015 ban on French poultry imports

CHINA has removed a ban on French poultry imports that has been in force since a 2015 outbreak of H5N1 avian influenza in the European country.

The announcement was made on China’s General Administration of Customs website on Wednesday, according to Reuters.

Demand for poultrymeat in China is soaring as the country continues to battle African Swine Fever. Estimates suggest pork production could be cut by 10%-20% this year. As a consequence, it has been estimated chicken consumption could grow 9% in its place.

While France has historically not exported much chicken to China, it was once an important destination for genetic material.
