Non-notifiable avian influenza found on seven Belgian poultry farms

LOW PATH H3 avian influenza has been found on seven poultry farms near Flanders, Belgium, according to farmer organisation Boerenbond.

The virus was first found on a free-range laying hen farm two weeks ago, and infections have since been found on two more layer units and four breeder farms.

The virus on all sites, which are relatively close to one another, has been low-path H3N1, which is not a notifiable strain of the virus.

Boerenbond’s Wouter Wytynck said the farms had reported high mortality, increased feed consumption and lower productivity, and advised poultry producers in the country to up biosecurity measures.
