China exports record amount of poultrymeat to EU

CHINESE exports of poultrymeat have hit a six-year high following the EU granting more low-tariff quotas at the beginning of April.

It follows a long-running dispute between the two that resulted in China filing a complaint with the World Trade Organisation in 2015.

The trade dispute was related to outbreaks of avian influenza in Asia between 2006 and 2008.

Last year new tariff quotas were finally agreed after the WTO ruled in China’s favour in 2017.

According to Qingdao Customs 4,097t of poultry products worth $4.5m US was shipped in April this year, a year-on-year increase of 32.2% in volume and 48% in value.
