The European Food Safety Authority’s rapid alert system has said Salmonella continues to top its most reported pathogen in food.
It was the most frequent pathogen in both foods from member states (246, up 19%) and non-member states (304 in 2018).
Meat took up the bulk of the notifications, poultry meat in particular because of the food safety criterion for the absence of Salmonella Typhimurium and Enteritidis in fresh poultry meat.
There were 47 notifications on Salmonella in poultry products originating from Poland, most often (34 notifications) concerning Salmonella Enteritidis in fresh poultry. Two operators were identified as recurrent.
