BERNARD MATTHEWS Great Witchingham processing site has been hit by an outbreak of covid-19, following a cluster of cases at its Holton food processing site.

Norfolk’s director of public health, Louise Smith, said a small number of employees had tested positive at Great Witchingham, and were self-isolating at home.

The two outbreaks are not thought to be linked.

It comes after the news that 36 workers at Bernard Matthews’ Holton site tested positive at the beginning of October.

That outbreak was linked to staff members sharing cars while commuting.

On this latest outbreak, Dr Smith said: “Norfolk Outbreak control team are working with the management team at the site to trace the contacts of those who have tested positive and to prevent any further transmission of the virus on the site.

“At this stage, we do not believe this is an outbreak based on the Great Witchingham site but is a cluster of unrelated cases and reflects the generally rising cases across the community.

“However, we are keeping this under close review with the management at Bernard Mathews.”
