The supermarket said the move would save 450 tonnes of plastic a year.
It is removing the plastic trays from chicken and will instead package them in new pouches, following a successful trial last year.

Shoppers will be able to place poultrymeat directly from the packaging into a pan, meaning that they will not need to handle it, leading to more hygienic preparation.
The initiative is part of a broader long-term commitment by Asda to remove single-use plastic.
Since 2018, the supermarket has removed 9,000 tonnes of plastic and is committed to removing three billion pieces of plastic from own-brand products by 2025.
Plastic reduction
Lisa Barratt, Asda’s poultry buying manager, said: “The change in poultry packaging marks the next step in our commitment to use less and recycle more, something which we are very passionate about delivering for our customers and colleagues.
“The move means customers don’t have to prioritise plastic reduction over grocery decision making, ensuring the nation can continue purchasing quality poultry at the same price.”
