BANHAM POULTRY has submitted plans to expand its Bunns Bank slaughterhouse, which if approved will see the company end slaughtering at its facility in Attleborough town centre.

The firm said in documents submitted to the council the use of its Station Road site in the centre of Attleborough was intended as a temporary measure after Bunns Bank was destroyed by fire in 1998.

Banham won planning permission to redevelop Bunns Bank in 2013 but is now applying to expand the site beyond that.

“Since the 2013 planning permission was granted for Bunn’s Bank, Banham has reviewed the proposed development to ensure it meets the contemporary ambitions of the company, which has since changed hands,” the application says.

The company wants to increase the floor area of the site to 20,200sqm and raise the eves of the central part of the building to accommodate processing equipment at a first-floor level, as part of the refurbishment.

Banham Poultry was bought by Midlands-based Chesterfield Poultry in October last year in a pre-pack administration deal.

The Station Road site has been subject to a number of odour complaints in recent months.
