Mr Kay joins from Amber Real Estates (part of Boparan Private Office), where he held the position of agriculture strategy and supply chain director.

During his tenure, he supported the business’s transition to higher welfare chicken production, demonstrating his “dedication to animal welfare and sustainable agricultural practices”, Noble Foods said in a statement.

Prior to his role at Amber Real Estates, Mr Kay served as managing director of Agriculture at Pilgrim’s UK, where he oversaw one of the largest pig farming operations in the country.

His responsibilities included managing the operational and financial performance of the business.

Retail experience

Mr Kay has also served as head of agriculture at both Sainsbury’s and Tesco, two of the UK’s largest retailers.

In these positions, Barney excelled in building strong, productive relationships with farmers and suppliers, fostering trust and cooperation throughout the supply chain.

Commenting on the appointment, Barney said: “Having begun my career as a farmer, I hope to bring an honest, practical understanding of the agricultural supply chain to the role.

Producer support

“This is clearly an exciting time for Noble Foods, as the business continues to advance its support for producers and its sustainability efforts.”

Barney joined Noble Foods on 1 July, and he will lead the agricultural function within the Consumer Foods business, responsible for the production and packaging of over 30 million eggs each week.

“Barney brings with him extensive experience, strategic acumen, and a deep understanding of the agricultural sector. Key qualities which are essential for us to nurture and grow our agricultural partnerships”, said Liam Burke, MD of Consumer Foods at Noble Foods.

“We are pleased to welcome Barney to our team, at a pivotal time for Noble Foods as we work hard to grow and develop our business in both shell and added value egg as well as deliver on the ambitions we have to become a truly sustainable business”.
