TYSON FOODS has said it will pay 116,000 of its frontline workers a $500 bonus each to say thank you for their efforts during the coronavirus crisis.
The company, which is the world’s second-largest processor of chicken, beef, and pork, said the payments would be made to staff in the first week of July.
Tyson Foods has restricted access to its facilities and relaxed attendance policies in response to the crisis.
It is also testing staff at the beginning of shifts with temporal thermometers and offering personal protective equipment to employees.
Certain health insurance fees are also being waived, the company said.
‘Critical mission’
“We’re proud of how our team members have stepped up during this challenging time to make sure we continue fulfilling our critical mission of feeding people across America,” explained Tyson Foods CEO Noel White.
“Our team members are leading the charge to continue providing food to the nation,” White said. “The bonuses are another way we can say ‘thank you’ for their efforts.”
The United States has experienced a surge in coronavirus cases, with close to 200,000 confirmed at the beginning of April.
