The Dutch government has launched a consultation to determine the viability of a new inspection point for hatching eggs and day-old chicks in the Hook of Holland.
“Carola Shouten, minister for agriculture, announced the work in an answer to a question posed in the country’s lower house of parliament.
She said the poultry industry in the Netherlands, the European Commission and the Dutch government were all working on the possible new checkpoint.
“But it remained to be seen if throughputs from the UK to the Netherlands were sufficient to support the inspection point, she added.
The Stena Line freight site in the Hook of Holland was named as a possible location for the point.
