PLANS have been approved for Salisbury Poultry to expand its Bilston processing plant.
The £115m-turnover poultry processor employs more than 600 people and has been in operation since 1989.
It has a sister business Maelor Foods, based in Wrexham, North Wales, that has itself undergone recent expansion.
Wolverhampton councillors approved the application for the Vulcan Road processing plant on 10 March, which will see the site build new production, office and delivery facilities.
Alongside this, buildings will be re-clad, and parking provision increased.
Planning specialists Cassidy + Ashton submitted a planning statement on behalf of Salisbury Poultry that explained the firm was undergoing rapid expansion.
‘Growth’
“The business has now grown to the stage where it needs additional space to deal with the scale of operations and the expanding employee base.
“The company now employ over 600 members of staff and are therefore outgrowing their current premises.
“As such, the erection of extensions and associated works is necessary for the sustainable expansion of the business.”
