He has spent his career in the animal nutrition sector and most recently held managing director and chief commercial officer roles at AB Agri.

Chris Baxter, chief executive of Harbro, said the appointment came at an important stage in the company’s development.

“The appointment of Simon will further strengthen our leadership team at a pivotal point in Harbro’s development,” he said.

“Simon’s depth of experience, commercial insight and strategic capability enhances our ability to deliver the successful integration of the Cargill Dalton business.”

Mr Heath said Harbro had a clear strategy and a strong platform for further growth.

“I look forward to working with the team to build on that success and help accelerate the next phase of the company’s development,” he added.

Harbro manufactures feed for the poultry, pig, dairy, beef and sheep sectors from several sites across the UK. The group also operates an on-farm mobile milling and mixing service, a network of agricultural retail stores and a wholesale division supplying agricultural businesses in the UK and overseas.
