LIVETEC  has made a new version of its electronic Biosecurity Assessment Tool, eBAS, freely available to poultry producers following the launch of Defra-funded poultry biosecurity reviews.

The reviews form part of the Animal Health and Welfare Pathway and are intended to provide eligible poultry keepers in England with practical, site-specific advice to reduce disease risk.

Livetec director Julian Sparrey said the initiative offered producers an opportunity to strengthen their front-line defences against avian influenza and other disease threats.

“As a company, we’ve seen first-hand the impact disease outbreaks can have on farms, their animals and staff, and we strongly support Defra’s initiative,” he said.

“By completing a detailed biosecurity assessment ahead of the vet visit, producers can build a clearer picture of their current biosecurity provision.

Business review

“eBAS can highlight where the business performs well, while also identifying vulnerabilities and potential risk areas.

“The assessment can then be shared with the vet to help facilitate focused conversations around the areas where support is needed the most.”

Mr Sparrey stressed that eBAS was not a replacement for the vet-led review, but could give the vet and farm team a shared starting point.

Part of Livetec’s Livestock Protect platform, eBAS enables poultry producers to assess their own biosecurity provision. It generates an overall biosecurity score as well as individual scores for defined biosecurity zones.

Assessment

The UK-focused assessment covers conceptual, structural and procedural biosecurity, including farm location, infrastructure and day-to-day working practices.

Producers can access the free, single-site eBAS assessment by downloading the Livestock Protect mobile app. Access to the full Livestock Protect platform is not required.

Jack Hughes of Livetec will be speaking at Poultry Network Live on 3 September. Email jake@deemediagroup.com to book your ticket.
