We begin with Henry Gibbs, a newcomer to free-range egg production who set up his new unit to diversify his family farm business.
Now on his second flock, the global pandemic and a winter housing order because of avian influenza have been two challenges.
In addition to keeping 32,000 hens, he has developed a new brand: Heart of Shropshire Eggs.
Locals can take advantage of the farm-fresh produce from the farmgate, where an egg vending machine has recently been installed.
Poultry.Network editor Jake Davies said: “With this new series, we hope to highlight the successes, innovation and forward-thinking inherent in the next generation of poultry producers, who are bringing new ideas and an open attitude to the sector.”
Alltech UK’s Adam Platt added: “There is a considerable gap in the UK’s farming sector – inspiring, nurturing and bringing new people into poultry production.
“It is arguably one of the most important and sustainable food production systems.
“Many new entrants are coming in hungry for knowledge, support, and encouragement.
“We are delighted to collaborate with Poultry.Network to help share the experiences, perspectives and plans of some of the sector’s best prospects.”
