A QUARTER of a million game birds will be sent to Hong Kong and Macau this season after a new trade deal was secured.

The deal with luxury meat purveyor Sutherland will be for a mix of pheasant, partridge and grouse, to be sold in high-end retailers and served in restaurants.

The British Game Alliance worked with Defra and the Department for International Trade to secure the agreement, and work has now commenced on a similar arrangement with Canada.

The BGA acts as both a marketing board and industry self-regulator. It has almost 600 estates signed up after just 16 months of existence.
