2 SISTERS FOOD GROUP has reopened its Llangefni processing facility following a two-week shut-down after a coronavirus outbreak on the site.

Public Health Wales said that more than 200 of the 560 staff members have tested positive for the covid-19 virus and are self-isolating.

2 Sisters said it closed the site on 18 June for 14 days to ensure employee safety and introduce additional safety measures.

Staff will need to test negative for coronavirus before returning to work, PHW confirmed.

And upon their return will undergo additional training, be offered enhanced PPE and dividers have been installed in areas such as staff canteens.

The plant’s smoking area has been made larger, and new CCTV has been installed in high-traffic areas to better monitor movement.

A spokesman for the firm said it would reopen on 3 July, with full production expected to resume from 6 July.

‘Personal responsibility’

“While it is far too early to say how and why the virus spread, at this stage we are leaving no room for doubt by briefing our people, starting Friday, on the new measures and how every single person should take personal responsibility for their own behaviours.

“We also realise there will be colleagues who have tested positive and may believe this provides them with some level of immunity.

“The reality is that we don’t know this to be true, so our teams will be making sure everyone knows we all have a shared responsibility to protect each of us and our wider community from any further outbreak.

“Our plan is to bring the factory up to full production starting in phases from Friday (3 July).

“Limited production will commence only after we have fully briefed all colleagues on the full range of measures we have in place to manage the various risks associated with Covid-19.
