RUSSIAN turkey producer Damate is to develop a Kosher and halal turkey production facility with a capacity of 70,000t/year.

The new facility will cost 2.2bn rubles (US$34m) and is scheduled to be operational by 2021, the company said.

Damate said it was meeting growing domestic demand for products slaughtered to religious specifications both domestically and abroad, and cited Israel and other Middle Eastern countries as particular targets for export.

A site for construction in the Kamensky District of the Penza region has been ideftified, and it is expected the project will create 450 jobs.
