SUNRISE EGGS HOLDINGS LTD, the parent company of Leicestershire-based Sunrise Eggs, has reported sales growth in its latest accounts.

But operating profits were lower, primarily because of a higher cost of sales in the period which covers the year to 30 June 2018.

Turnover was up at £23m, compared with £19.8m the year before and an operating profit of £2.5m was posted, compared with £3m the year before.

The cost of sales was £17m compared with £13.7m in 2017.

The directors’ report says: “The sale of eggs is greatly effected [sic] by the availability of eggs on the open market. This, in turn, can create volatile effects to pricing and margins, depending on the amount of stocks held.”
