THE World Egg Organisation has announced the theme and industry resources for World Egg Day 2026, which will mark the campaign’s 30th anniversary on Friday 9 October.
This year’s theme, “Protein that Powers and Protects”, will focus on the role of egg protein and essential nutrients in supporting physical health, cognitive development and wellbeing throughout life.

World Egg Day has been held annually since 1996 and is now celebrated by egg businesses, industry organisations and communities around the world.
Julian Madeley, director general of the World Egg Organisation, said the campaign had continued to grow in scale and reach while retaining its original purpose.
“Since 1996, World Egg Day has been celebrated by people, organisations and communities across the globe,” he said.
Celebrate the egg
“Although it has grown in size and reach each year, its mission remains the same – to celebrate the fantastic benefits of the humble but mighty egg.”
Mr Madeley said the 2026 campaign would place particular emphasis on the accessibility and nutritional quality of egg protein.
“This year the focus is on the high-quality protein found in eggs and how they help to power the body and protect overall health,” he said.
“As a key contributor to physical and cognitive development, it is vital that high-quality protein is accessible to the entire global population.
“That is what makes eggs so special – they are a source of essential nutrients and one of the highest-quality proteins that can be produced and enjoyed all around the world.”
New mascot
The organisation has also introduced Eggwin, the official mascot for World Egg Day 2026.
The character has been developed to help communicate the nutritional value of egg protein in a format intended to appeal to audiences of different ages.
More than 100 countries took part in World Egg Day celebrations in 2025. Activities included egg-based cooking competitions, meal donations and a record-breaking omelette.
To help egg producers, packers, representative bodies and other industry organisations participate in this year’s campaign, the World Egg Organisation has produced an interactive communications toolkit.
Resources include key campaign messages, social media graphics, GIFs, a 30th-anniversary video and examples of activities staged during the 2025 event.
World Egg Day is held on the second Friday of October each year. All campaign resources for the 2026 event are available through the World Egg Organisation’s website.
